About me: I’m Oviya Arulraj, and I started writing in 2021. In such a big world, I think we all need to spend time understanding other perspectives and appreciating the diverse set of cultures that make up this world. Most of my writing focuses on exploring unique aspects of nations across Asia and the parts of it that are often overlooked.

Besides writing: I’m a senior in high school, I have two cats (Milo and Fenty), and I play volleyball. I’m a big fan of tea and coffee and love trying out new flavors. I enjoy reading by the beach and traveling!

Current Project: Currently, I'm working with Professor Barclay at Lafayette College and working on developing a document of sources (articles, videos, journals etc.) that can be used as a learning resource for students pursing Asian Studies or any sub-topics. It is a live document and I'm working under Professor Barclay to research, analyze, and write about such sources that can be used. I will link it here once the final project is done!

About The White Elephant: I created The White Elephant (TWE) as a place for those who don’t enjoy reading lengthy articles to learn about the unique parts of Asia. I also write as a fellow Asian American girl, to provide a safe space for those who are similar to connect with. I also wanted to create a channel where people can learn in-depth about Asia, before they find a travel blog to choose their next destination – because there is so much more than just pretty beaches and good food. TWE is a place for anything and everything related to Asia, stories for everyone – I hope you enjoy it!
